Manya Goldman

Biography

Manya Goldman was born in Cape Town in 1960 to parents who were active in the struggle against apartheid. In 1965, with the political situation becoming increasingly hostile, the family fled as refugees to London, where she grew up.

This dislocated life experience informs Goldman's work which deals with memory, belonging and separation.

Education

Goldman studied Foundation at Camberwell School of Art, then Textiles at West Surrey College of Art and Design. She went on from there to do an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art.

Practice

After completing her education, Goldman worked as an artist, making paintings, and as a Senior Lecturer on the Foundation course at Winchester School of Art.

Over the last few years she has found a way to combine her expertise in both painting and textiles in a radical new practice and she has started to show her work again.

She lives in Brighton with her husband and two children.
